Spa spotlight: Arctic Bath Hotel (opening soon)

Opening any day now in Northern Lapland, Sweden is the Arctic Bath Hotel, a project announced last year, which is a new hotel and spa that floats on top of the Lule river in summer and freezes into the ice in the winter.

According to Off The Map Travel: “The Arctic Bath is inspired by the timber floating era, where trees felled in local forests were transported down the river to be processed.” The Bath is sister property to the nearby Tree Hotel, which features amazing treehouse rooms.

The circular shaped Arctic Bath will house one spa treatment room, four saunas, an outside cold bath, a hot bath, outside and inside showers, and two dressing rooms. The plunge pool in the centre of the circle is kept at 4 degrees Celcius/39 degrees Farhenheit.

There are also six floating hotel rooms.

The open centre is designed for sunbathing, ice bathing and for skygazing at the stars or Northern Lights, which are spectacular in winter.

The hotel was designed with the highest environmental standards, using local materials and with as little impact to the environment as possible.
