Denver may get first fully licensed cannabis spa in USA

Owners of Utopia All Natural Wellness Spa and Lounge LLC have submitted an application to become a “Cannabis Consumption Establishment,” which if accepted will allow Utopia to become the nation’s first fully licensed, state-legal cannabis spa.

According to a media release, “Utopia will offer cannabis-infused massages, ganja yoga, and other cannabis-friendly activities to patrons 21 and older, as well as meditation coaching, educational seminars, and patient support and networking groups.”

The establishment plans to offer private memberships allowing members to access legally designated cannabis consumption areas. It will also feature a retail area offering “high-quality and locally sourced hemp products, natural health and beauty products, supplements, and cosmetics,” as well as cannabis-friendly cooking classes, corporate retreats, and other private functions, and will not sell cannabis or cannabis-infused products.

“Utopia will offer a unique experience that cannot be found anyplace else in the country,” said Utopia CEO Cindy Sovine. “Our mission is to provide a place of retreat for cannabis consumers and access to high-quality products and services for those who wish to explore natural options for self-care.”

It can be hard to wrap one’s head around weed laws in the United Staes, but Mashable explains that while cannabis “is legal in some form in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, California, Nevada, Massachusetts, Maine, Washington D.C., and soon Vermont,” consumption outside of home is not allowed in most cases.

Denver businesses may apply to become “consumption establishments” if they have received the official support of at least one Registered Neighborhood Organization or Business Improvement District (BID).

“We are proud to have the support of five wonderful neighborhood organizations,” Sovine said. “Utopia is committed to being a good neighbor and valuable addition to the community. We are looking forward to opening our doors, not just to cannabis consumers, but all adults interested in natural self-care and making healthy changes to their lifestyle.”
