Singapore Air and Canyon Ranch partner to create wellness experience on the world’s longest flights

Singapore Airlines and award-winning wellness company Canyon Ranch have created a brilliant partnership to reinvent the ultra-long-haul flight experience. The collaboration will take the pain out of the world’s longest commercial flight – 18 hours and 45 minutes between Singapore and Newark, New Jersey – by creating an experience focused on wellness cuisine, rest and relaxation, and general well-being.

The Canyon Ranch team of experts from integrative medicine, exercise, nutrition and other disciplines – collectively known as Canyon Ranch Wellness Architects – has developed science-based strategies for improved sleep, exercise and stretching, as well as new, nutrition-focused menus.

The program will also extend to Singapore-US non-stop services to Los Angeles and San Francisco, and will include:

Wellness Cuisine menu developed by Canyon Ranch chefs and nutritionists – focused on nutrition and hydration, taking into consideration longer flight duration with less body movement. The meals will combine bold flavours and textures.

Rest and Relaxation strategies – includes sleep strategies designed to help customers in all cabin classes improve the duration and quality of rest, as well as specific light settings to provide better cabin ambience for rest and relaxation.

Guided Stretching Exercises – led by Canyon Ranch exercise physiologists, accessible via personal seatback entertainment systems to promote relaxation.

According to Condé Nast Traveller, Singapore Airlines discontinued the ultra-long-haul flight from Newark to Singapore in 2013 due to rising fuel costs (making Qatar Airways’ 18 hour and 5 minute flight from Aukland temporarily the world’s longest).

Now Singapore-Newark is returning with the Airbus A350-900ULR, “which can fly up to 20 hours without refueling and is more energy-efficient than planes before it.”

Condé Nast also reports that the plane’s technology fights jet lag as you fly, “with a lighting system that mimics the daylight at your destination,” and an air circulation system that refreshes the air every two minutes and regulates the in-flight temperature.

Singapore Airlines will be the first airline in the world to operate the A350-900ULR with seven on firm order.

“SIA is firmly committed to continually elevating our customers’ experience to be the number one in the industry. Our new partnership with Canyon Ranch builds on that commitment, as well as our strong legacy of service, tapping into their deep expertise and science-based recommendations and strategies to deliver an even more comfortable journey for our customers,” said Singapore Airlines Acting Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Mr. Yeoh Phee Teik.

And CEO of Canyon Ranch, Susan E. Docherty said, “As a trailblazer in integrative wellness for four decades, collaborating with the world’s most awarded airline that has ushered customers globally for more than 70 years, our affiliation is testimony to heritage brands that continue to innovate. We are fortunate to provide transformative wellness to guests on land, at sea and now – in the air, with a partner that is equally committed to their guests’ experience as we are.”
