Cannabis has been gaining a lot of recognition lately as a healing substance. Once anathema to North America the plant has more recently been decriminalized to various degrees in locations around the world, including some US states. In Canada, recreational marijuana will be legalized on October 17, 2018. And the health and wellness communities are very excited about the possibilities for Cannabis’ medicinal use as a treatment for a variety of ailments, including mental illness, epilepsy, chronic pain, and multiple sclerosis.
As we have discussed before, there are two chemical ingredients of the cannabis plant, THC and CBD. THC has psychoactive properties, while CBD is non psychoactive. Both are attracting attention for their potential healing properties but it’s CBD that people are getting really excited about as it shows promise as a treatment for many ailments — without the high.
Among the assertions regarding CBD’s healing properties and grounds for its use as a topical application and use in body treatments, facials, and more are that is increases relaxation and acts as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Taken orally it’s said to help relieve stress and anxiety.
And spas all across the US and in Canada are incorporating CBD into treatments, usually as a topical application and sometimes ingested. No longer just for outliers, CBD is even making its way into services in luxury spas.
Here are nine spas in North America offering CBD services.
Ste Anne’s Spa, Grafton, Ontario
Ste Anne’s, an award-winning rural Ontario spa located in an 1858 stone farmhouse, offers the Canna Massage. This massage aimed at “relaxing, revitalizing, and healing” is a treatment using essential oils infused with CBD. Afterwards guests will receive a full-sized bottle of the spa’s Rest Aromatherapy Oil to take home.

The Spa at St Julien, an award-winning spa in Boulder Colorado, offers a selection of “Colorado Bliss CBD treatments” including a CBD Classic Massage, during which “the calming, soothing effects of CBD work in unison with massage techniques designed to quiet the mind and relax the body. Essential oils of lavender and sage aide in relaxation, which are perfect for anyone seeking a blissful escape.” Also on offer are the CBD Deep Tissue Massage and The Ultimate Colorado Bliss CBD Experience. The latter includes full body exfoliation with lavender vetiver sugar scrub, CBD infused body butter wrap, hot oil scalp massage with lavender, grapefruit, clary sage and vetiver, full body massage with CBD infused massage oil, and CBD infused tea

Colorado’s luxury Remède Spa at the St Regis Aspen has teamed up with That’s Natural! CBD Hemp Oil to offer a Healing CBD Hemp oil-fused massage. “This service alleviates symptoms of pain & tension on a deeper level, decreases inflammation, reduces muscle soreness & tension and also calms anxiety & stresses.”

Spa Anjali, an award winning spa also in Colorado, offers a CBD oil add on to massages. The oil and massage are “designed to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin while easing the inevitable aches and pains of an active lifestyle. Away Spa’s “On the Road Again” treatment is inspired by Austin icon and marijuana advocate Willie Nelson. The Body Treatment aims to ease any ailments and get your body “On the Road Again” and includes a soothing full body massage with CBD oil to relieve muscular pain and inflammation, then a foot scrub and paraffin soak followed by a hot stone neck massage and de-puffing “Cold Stone Face Treat.”

Celebrity aesthetician Ildi Pekar, based in New York City and beloved by supermodels Miranda Kerr and Irina Shayk, offers a CBD Facial “designed to provide an instant uplifting energy and illuminate the skin by combining the effects of CBD Oil, electric stimulation, and oxygen therapy.” The company also sells CBD products like this Sleeping Mask Infused With CBD Oil.

Bellacures, Los Angeles, CA
Bellacures’ Canna-cure is a cannabis infused manicure and pedicure, using CBD-based products from Kush Queen. Treatment involves a pure CBD soak with Kush Queen’s nourishing 100% organic bath bomb with essential oils to relieve pain. Also includes a natural sugar cane based CBD scrub infused with lavender, rosehips and borage oil. “Known for its efficacy at providing deep targeted pain relief, aches will “melt away” during an enhanced massage using Kush Queen’s CBD relief lotion, made with an organic aloe juice base, blended with powerful botanicals and powered by true nanotechnology. Modrn Sanctuary a popular urban wellness destination in NYC uses Veritas Farms CBD products in a 60 or 90 minute customized massage in which a therapist will integrate several modalities to meet the client’s needs and intentions at that specific time. “The CBD helps people to relax faster and at a deeper level, making it possible for a greater release of stress, muscle aches and pains.”

Habitude Spa, Seattle, WA
Habitude in Seattle is a more bohemian setting. One of the locations is even situated in a working art gallery. Habitude offers a full CBD focused spa menu of 60-minute treatments called Spa Canna. Services include the Moon Spirit Balancing Massage for “cramps, moods and monthly ebbs and flows,” the Fire Power Sport Massage, and the Eclipse Relief Soothing Massage. The treatments use products from the Apothecanna product line.
